The proposal to establish the Northern Science Park (NSP) in Chiang Mai was approved by the Royal Thai Government on December 23, 2003. The park is under the management of the Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research. Its mission is to be a center for scientific and technological research and development, both of which are essential for the competitive capability and production potentiality of business and industry in northern Thailand. The Northern Science Park aims to connect education sectors, research and development activities, and technology transfer with a variety of manufacturing sectors. It will also establish mutual connections among manufacturers. Its mission is expected to add value to goods, production facilities, and services, all of which should attract entrepreneurs and aid new and early-stage technology development. The Northern Science Park’s activities should reinforce and strengthen the basic structure of industry and the economic system in northern Thailand.
